Media Advocacy for Promote Local Economic and Trade

Concerted effect of Media and Business Leaders Inevitable for Local Development

Rajshahi, 22 January:

Calling upon journalists and media to play active role in developing and promoting local business, trade and economic activities, speakers said, it is easily possible to develop local economic activities through integrated effort of media and business people. 

Speakers said it while addressing a daylong Advocacy workshop with media owners on Role of Media in Promoting Local Economic and Trade held in the conference room of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce today. With the support of European Union, mass communication oriented development organisation CCD Bangladesh organised the workshop.

Speakers hopefully said, through ensuring gas supply to Rajshahi area and setting up agro-based EPZ, mango and silk industry here, it is possible to ease rapid trade promotion in this region. That is why, the media institutions must be active, so that the government and donor agencies would come forward to set up EPZ and potential industries here, they added.

Speakers also suggested that the media people should provide new concept and idea bank for promoting innovative entrepreneurs.

President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md. Lutfar Rahman attended the workshop as chief guest while chairman of CCD and Editor of the Daily Barta S M A Quader, Convenor of Economic Journalist Network (EJ Net) Rajshahi and Executive Editor of the Daily Sonali Sangbad Molazzem Hossain and Project Coordinator of CCD A H M Abdul Hai presnted welcome address in the workshop. Former Chairman of Mass Communication department of Rajshahi University Dulal Chandra Biswas and Senior Faculty Member of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RUKUB) Training Institute A B Siddique facilitated the workshop.

Among others, Editor of the Daily Natun Provat Sardar Abdur Rahman, Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Rezaul karim Razu, Deputy Regional Director of Bangladesh Betar Rajshahi Amanullah Masud Hasan and Hasan Akhter, Deputy news controller Mainur Rahim, Editor of the Weekly Uttar Janapad Golam Mostafa Mamun, Executive Editor of the Daily Upachar Rafiwue Alam, President of Chapai Nawabganj Press Club Golam Mostafa Montu, Editor of the Daily Chapai Sangbad D M Talebunnabi, Editor of the Daily Nabab Syed Nazat Hossain, Secretary of Chapai Nawabganj New Press Club Emran Faruk Masum, President of Natore Press Club Rezaul Karim Khan and President of Natore Reporters’ Club Manjur Ul Hasan took part in the technical sessions.
